- Maths:- Each term children’s
knowledge and quick recall of basic facts and times tables will be assessed.
To assist children’s learning regular practice of the following is recommended:
- counting forwards and backwards
- complimentary numbers to 10 and 20 eg 4+6=10, 14+6=20
- doubles up to 20 e.g. 3+3
- times tables = x1, x2, x5 and x10 (Year 3) extending to x3 and x4 (Year
4) followed by x6, x7, x8 and x9
- skip counting (in 2s, 5s, 10s extending to 3s and 4s)
- Reading:- We recommend Reading
is done each night and we value all kinds of reading, whether it be a book
the child has read at school that day, a simpler book which the child can
read independently, a school library book or a book chosen by the child from
elsewhere. Being read to by a parent, member of the extended family or sibling
is also important.
- Each child has a reading log, which needs to be filled in at home with the
date, title and comment daily. This log needs to be returned to school each
Friday for teacher comment.
- Fluent readers can choose their own reading material and will often not
bring readers home .
- Spelling:-
including all testing, will be completed at school using the schoolwide Spelling
programme.Words from the Essential Word Lists will be sent home for the term.
These are tested at the end of each term.
- Integrated Studies:- A sheet,
with suggested activities relating to the term's topic, is attached to the
Reading Log for students who wish to explore the topic further at home.
