Physical Education and Sports

We have swimming three days a week, weather permitting. Swimming is a compulsory part of the programme. However, if your child is sick/injured please write a short note excusing them from that day’s swimming. A bag of some sort (supermarket bags are fine) is helpful to keep clothing together in the changing sheds. All clothing should be named. All children are required to have a sports uniform. These are available from John Russell Menswear in Howick.
Children will be offered a wide range of sporting opportunities throughout the year. Jump Jam is a popular part of our fitness programme. Sports Uniform is also worn for Jump Jam which is scheduled for Fridays in Term Two.

Senior School Camp

The Year 5/6 children will be attending camp from the 17th to the 20th of May this year - Week Five of Term Two. This is always a fantastic experience for the children.

Homework

This year homework should include reading each night, along with learning addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. All children should know all of their Basic Facts by the end of Year 5. They need to spend at least 10 minutes every day working on these. Once they know them, then they need to work on speed of recall.
The Year 5 and 6 area will also be completing Maths homework online this year using Mathletics. The cost for this is $12.00 per child.

Spelling homework
The children will have a list of the words, that practise a spelling rule, in their spelling notebooks, which they need to practise until mastery. The spelling notebook is due back on Thursday for their dictation. Children will move onto a new list every week.
