Our Foundation Class is a highlight of our school. Our philosophy is around building early student success and creating a ‘can-do’ attitude. Our Junior School philosophy of creating, belonging, being a learner and becoming engaged in the learning process, are evident throughout all areas of the classroom.
Our students learn through creating, making, and natural science activities. We have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy alongside fine motor skills as well as social and emotional development.
At Howick Primary School, we model and assist young learners to become active participants in their own learning through clear, manageable progressions. This quickly creates a sense of “I can” and allows each student to learn in a personalised way.
At Howick Primary School, we recognise that your child comes with a wealth of learning on board already and we look forward to partnering with you to support your child in their next learning steps.
Our Foundation Class teacher, Mrs Kristen Oliphant is a mum of two and is sensitive to the needs of new learners. Having experienced this as a parent, she is also aware of the enrolment process from a parent’s perspective. It is a big change for everyone. When you have a child starting school the whole family experiences this transition together. Mrs Oliphant runs a supportive and structured programme that aids literacy and numeracy development as well as building self-esteem and positive social relationships.
